Infection Prevention Begins with Preparedness

In home health, infection prevention starts with preparedness—having the right knowledge and tools in place to keep patients and caregivers safe.

This session, led by infection prevention experts from the Maryland Department of Health, will cover essential strategies to prevent transmission of Multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO's) in home-based care.

NOTE: this presentation will not be recorded.

Description of presentation:

Multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) pose a growing threat in all healthcare environments—including home health.

This presentation will provide an overview of what MDROs are, including a breakdown of new and emerging MDROs such as CRE, CRAB, CP-CRE, and C. auris. Participants will explore how these organisms can spread in the home health setting and learn practical strategies to prevent their transmission.

This session emphasizes actionable infection prevention measures that can be applied in everyday practice to prevent and mitigate the spread of MDROs.

Learning objectives for the presentation:

  • Define multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) including  CRE, CRAB, CP-CRE, C. auris
  • Identify common ways MDROs can spread within a home health environment.
  • Describe key infection prevention strategies that can be implemented in the home health setting to prevent and mitigate the spread of MDROs.

Who Should Attend?

This presentation is designed for home health professionals.
